Life is about Relationships
Relationships are everything. Whether it's your spouse or partners, parents, children, adult children, close friends or colleagues, we couldn't live without them.
Couples
You've had the same argument so many times you could both perform the other person's lines. It starts about the dishes and ends somewhere neither of you meant to go. Afterwards there's the silence, and then the careful few days, and then it happens again.
Couples work isn't about deciding who's right. It's about interrupting the loop long enough for each of you to say the thing underneath the argument, and for the other person to actually hear it.
What does Couples Counselling look like?
Most couples work starts with an individual session for each partner, to assess for safety and to hear each person's expectations of counselling.
Subsequent joint sessions are safe spaces for each partner to hear the others' experience of the relationship. The systems that impact the relationship are explored - these systems could be almost anything - for example, family of origin, finances, employment and career issues.
Imago is a structured dialogue that is used to encourage active, empathic listening. Often this is when real change begins: hearing what's behind what your beloved is saying.
Ten sessions is about the average for couple work, but it really is up to you.
Start by booking a free 15 minute consultation, and I'll suggest what the first few sessions could look like.
Other relationships
I work with all relationship configurations.
For example:
Individuals - where the other partner is not ready to come to counselling
Separated couples - where there is a common purpose for having a supported conversation
Families with adult children, or children over the age of 16
LGBTQI relationships, whatever your polycule looks like
Parenting Support
Sometimes parents just need a little help.
I can help you explore your family dynamics, and look at what developmental stage your child/children might be at. Problem behaviour is looked at in the context of the whole family structure, children's developmental needs, and how other systems are impacting the family unit.
There are no perfect parents, but we look for ways to understand your children better, so you can delight in them again.
